1) Buhari calls Leah Sharibu’s mother, promises safe return of teenager

President Muhammadu Buhari yesterday spoke with the mother of the last kidnapped Dapchi schoolgirl, Mrs. Rebecca Sharibu, assuring her of the safe return of her daughter, Leah, from Boko Haram captivity.

2) Ambode accepted defeat to avert impeachment –Sources

There were indications on Wednesday that the Lagos State Governor, Akinwunmi Ambode, conceded victory to Babajide Sanwo-Olu, his main opponent for the All Progressives Congress governorship ticket in Lagos, to calm frayed nerves and avert impeachment.

3) I won’t take mandate for granted, says Sanwo-Olu

Lagos State All Progressives Congress (APC) governorship candidate Babajide Sanwo-Olu has promised not to take the mandate given to him for granted.

Sanwo-Olu won the primary on Tuesday with 970,851 votes. His opponent, incumbent Governor Akinwunmi Ambode  scored 72,901 votes.

4) Confusion mars Imo gov primaries as Uzodinma, Nwosu emerge winners

OWERRI—DISCORDANT tunes  yesterday heralded the declaration of results of Imo APC primaries with Kogi Police Commissioner, Ahmed Gulak  who presided over the panel that conducted the primary  declaring Senator  Hope Uzodinma as the APC gubernatorial candidate. But in a twist, the secretary of the panel  went ahead and declared Uche Nwosu, Okorocha’s in-law the winner of the primaries.

5) Policeman kills undergraduate, injures another at APC primary

There was tension at the Federal College of Education (Technical) Asaba, on Wednesday, when a policeman deployed in the venue of the All Progressives Congress’ Delta North Senatorial District allegedly went berserk, shooting two students of the institution.

6) Army Chief Faults Plateau Elders Over Jos Killings

The Chief of Army Staff (COAS), Lt General Tukur Yusuf Buratai, has alleged that Plateau elders and elite are culpable for stoking the incessant and repeated violent clashes and their escalation in the state. He revealed that the body language of the elders, their actions and inactions had emboldened the youths to maim and kill innocent passers-by at their whims and caprices.

7) EFCC arraigns Saraki’s aide, others for alleged N3.5b fraud

THE Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) yesterday arraigned Senate President Bukola Saraki’s Deputy Chief of Staff Gbenga Makanjuola at the Federal High Court in Lagos for alleged N3.5 billion fraud.

He and three others were arraigned before Justice Babs Kuewumi on 11-counts of money laundering.

8) CBN gives reasons for external reserves’ fall

The Central Bank of Nigeria has given reasons why the nation’s external reserves, which currently stand at $44bn, have been on a downward trend lately.

Speaking during the CBN Day at the ongoing Abuja International Trade Fair in Abuja on Wednesday, the Director, Corporate Communications at the apex bank, Mr Isaac Okorafor, explained that the external reserves had been going down recently because of higher yields in the United States.
