1) 2019: PDP panel grills Atiku, Saraki, Makarfi, others Thursday

The Peoples Democratic Party Board of Trustees panel set up to discuss the possibility of having a consensus presidential candidate among the aspirants will meet with them  (the aspirants) and also screen them on Thursday, The PUNCH has learnt.

The 12-man panel, which is headed by Senator Walid Jibrin, is expected to first meet in the morning of Thursday before inviting the aspirants for the screening.

2) Boko Haram kills nurse, threatens to murder Leah Sharibu

Boko Haram has killed one of the health workers kidnapped from Kala-Balge, Borno State, Saifura Khorsa, a midwife with the International Committee of Red Cross.

In a video seen by an online newspaper, The Cable, the deceased who was wearing a white hijab was shot from behind.

NNEWI—OFFICERS and soldiers of 14 Field Engineer Regiment from the 302 Artillery Regiment (General Support) Nigerian Army Onitsha, yesterday defied a heavy downpour and cleared over ten years old blocked erosion drainage system at Park Lane GRA Onitsha, Anambra State.

6) Osun poll will be credible – INEC, Police

The Inspector-General of Police, Ibrahim Idris, and the Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), Mahooud Yakubu, have assured Nigerians and political stakeholders that the Osun September 22 governorship election would be credible based on efforts put in place.

The IGP and INEC chairman both gave the assurance while speaking at the “Election Stakeholders Forum on the 2018 Governorship Election”, organised by INEC on Monday in Osogbo, the state capital.

7) Senate to convene emergency session over 2019 polls

The Senate is to reconvene before its September 25 resumption day to debate the 2019 general elections and related matters, according to the Deputy Majority Leader, Bala Ibn Na Allah.

He told reporters yesterday in Birnin Kebbi that “for the smooth forthcoming 2019 elections, we want to make sure that the exercise is conducted in a free and fair manner nationwide. That is one of the reasons why we must reconvene.”

8) Offa robbery: IGP directs service of summons on Saraki

INSPECTOR-GENERAL of Police (IGP) Ibrahim Idris has directed the court summons and other processes issued by a court in Abuja in relation to a criminal complaint brought against Senate President Bukola Saraki be served on him.

He detailed a unit in the Police Legal Department at the Force headquarters in Abuja to ensure the prompt delivery of the court processes on Saraki before October 3, the next date of hearing.

The Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) has released stiff regulations that would henceforth make it compulsory for deposit money banks and other financial service providers in the country to return failed transactions into the account of its customer under the Electronic Funds Transfer (EFT) within 10 minutes or face severe sanctions.
