The remarkable progress made by man, has been a function of how ideas have been produced, processed and birthed across ages. The difference between our worlds, between the global north and the global south, the rich and the poor countries, the developed and underdeveloped countries is the differences in our ideas and attitude towards it. For the underdeveloped countries, it is not the lack of ideas that has stunted their growth, it is attitude towards it. The sincerity of purpose. The right push. The friendliness of the environment. The lack of platforms that would birth it. The difference between our levels of idea production and institutionalization is contributive to our levels of advancement.

The realities we’re confronted with and what we are individually or collectively trying to survive as a people factors into the kinds of ideas we conceive. The way we have to survive. The way we must survive. Our environment nay society presents different challenges to us, the way we respond to these challenges, the attitude towards it results in where we find ourselves. At the individual level, it distinguishes between dreamers and achievers and the global level the global north/ south dichotomy is a difference in ideas, ideation, ideators and the realities and functionality of the factories and platforms available for its production and continuous nourishing.

Ideas born of the will to survive and that born of curiosity may be different. The later seems a tad luxurious. But it appears both reinforces each other. What is important is to have the outlet to showcase it. A platform to display it coupled with the right attitude.
Ideas.

We could talk about young men in mid twenties to late thirties in the streets of Lagos, hustling. With a wife and kid at home, maybe. Some transforms a wheelbarrow to a shop, a mobile shop, that is, and display their wares that amount to a few thousands of naira. They sell dubbed video CDs, phone accessories, recharge cards, shorts, suya! Yes! On a wheelbarrow and push it around markets in Lagos. Some now attach generators to their bigger wheelbarrow to play music and advertise their CDs. Ideas. Survival.

Yet, Albert Eisten’s ideas birthed the theory of relativity. Brilliance, but more importantly, curiosity. But what if his papers were not published. What if there were no means to express or share his ideas to the larger public? Platforms! Ideas birthed the production of the earliest ships. Curiosity led to explorations that led to the discoveries and the opening up of America, Africa etc. the voyages were however sponsored by those who believed in the ideators. But more importantly, they were adventurous, ambitious; they had the right attitude.

God created the world and populated it with people, animal and things. But, it is ideas that have transformed our world from the simple tools created by the earliest men to that which landed the first man on the moon. Different situations, different climes, different challenges, different ideas. And we progress through the actualization of our ideas, we are confronted with new challenges that requires new ideas. Ideas revolutionized our world; and our world revolves around ideas.

However, the differences in our ideas do not diminish the importance of our ideas. It is the drive we have to pursue it. Our attitude towards it and more importantly, the availability of platforms; the vehicle that conveys it to its promised land.

We all are idea producers, but how much time we devote to our ideas, how we nourish it, how we water it, how we pursue it, how we care about it, how we are resilient in ensuring we see it to a logical fruition, what we are willing to sacrifice, what length we are willing to go? Are what sums up the story of our lives. Those who succeed are those who, against all odds, allow their ideas to revolutionize their lives and the world around them.
