Trailing the road to success, meet Zimbabwean banker turned farmer

In most cases life gives back to you what you initially put into it. The will to succeed is always on a rough path, a path where many has failed to progress due to inconstitency and lack of commitment. This same path is where many successful individuals have passed through because they are able to manage their fears, believe their instinct and always ready to take reasonable risks when necessary.

The focus and resilience of many entrepreneurs give them the ability to easily diversify when the present looks like not working as planned or when they are financially incapacitated. Though it takes a proper and good managerial skills to proceed and succeed in such instance.

I made up my mind not to search for job or work for anyone-Mr Laniyan Olaitan CEO Footfreak

Over the years we've heard successful stories of entrepreneurs, entrepreneurs like Jeff Bezos the chief executive officer of Amazon, Jack MA the founder and executive chairman of Alibaba group, Monica Gwala executive officer of Mo-nize villa guest house, Dada Stephen the founder of CeosHub and executive officer of Nevo IT solutions, Aliko Dangote Chief executive officer of Dangote group and many others, but the story of Mr Simba Lloyd Gravel, a serial entrepreneur from Zimbabwe will give you more insight into how other entrepreneurs think.

Mr Simba Lloyd Gravel is the founder and chief executive officer of Anchored finance, a company that runs a product called Anchorpay. Anchorpay is a banking system that caters for children between the ages of nine and nineteen (9 and 19). He is also a farmer and a  former banker.

Some weeks ago,  Ankaurspeaks in collaboration with the fastest growing multinational organisation in the world CeosHub was able to get the audience of Mr Simba, a Zimbabwe entrepreneur who was a former high rank banking officer. He shared with us his entrepreneurship experience and why he dived into farming.

Read through our conversation with Mr Simba Lloyd Gravel.

Can we meet you sir?

Simba Lloyd: My name is Simba Lloyd Gravel.
How long have you been an entrepreneur?
Simba Lloyd: I've been an entrepreneur for five years now.

What prompted you to be an entrepreneur?

Simba Lloyd: I don't know if we can just decide to be an entrepreneur, I believe a problem needs to bother someone enough to force them to decide to delve about and create a solution, that then can become a business because it's a mutual problem for a lot of people. I also just never believed that I would be employed as I grew up and that affected my attitude during my three years of formal employment. I was learning as much as I could knowing that I would leave.

I worked in the head office of a bank for three years and I was promoted three times during that period. I got the idea for Anchorpay while I was in the banking sector, initially I had the intention of selling the idea to the bank I was working for to launch it but they didn't see it's business logic.

Kindly tell us about your business?

Simba Lloyd: I have two businesses that I have been working on, you may be familiar with the horticulture farming project that I am into but I am also the founder and CEO of Anchored finance, a company that runs a product called Anchorpay which is a banking system that caters for children between the ages of nine and nineteen (9 and 19).

Can you tell us more about Anchorpay?

Simba Lloyd: Anchorpay is a system that allows Children to transact using plastic money safely, while giving parents the opportunity to train their children on personal finance using the detailed account statements produced by our system. The system is designed to limit the students from buying products that are not relevant to their age as well.

The system has an inbuilt 'stock management system' which makes it easy to use in all tuck shops. Being an online system, parents have 24hrs access from anywhere in the world to see exactly what their children are buying.

Can you tell us one or two challenges you've encountered and how did you manage to overcome them?

Simba Lloyd: First and foremost the lack of funding, this is the reason I diversified into farming in order to raise fund for Anchorpay. Second is having the right team, I had trouble getting the right team for the first two years into the project but as I increased or grew my business network I managed to get a good team which is another reason why I'm part of Ceo'sHub. I met my software engineer through this platform, so I would say growing my business network was the solution.

How do you intend to reduce unemployment in the society?

Simba Lloyd: Currently my horticulture project caters for about forty families through permanent and seasonal work, and when I launch Anchorpay I am planning to employ over two thousand people with direct and indirect jobs created because of Anchorpay.

From everyone at Ceos'Hub and Ankaurspeaks we say keep pushing, the ends will justify the means.
